Ever
Higher Climb
I have walked into a drear and lonely place
Held by the remembrance of a face,
And one who held my love within her hands
Who like a jeweller fashioned wedding bands
Of antique gold on silver overlaid,
Created beauty that shall never fade
To signify a love that could not die.
Now she is gone and I, who am I,
That hungers for a symbol or a sign.
I have drunk deep the sacrificial wine
Yet cannot free my soul to serve Her best
Continuing the spirit's endless quest,
Becoming that which She had seen in me,
To rise above this frail mortality
Become a light mid darkness and deceit
Be led by Her accepting no defeat
Nor death that is an instant in all time
Renew the will and ever higher climb.
